Almost every company, government agency, or commercial enterprise makes use of a variety of technology solutions. Until recently, many of those solutions have been "premised based" meaning the phone system PBX, the network routers and switches, the LAN/WAN servers, and other technology equipment has all been located within an organization’s offices.
However, the growing trend for many technology solutions including an organization’s telephony system is the push to the "cloud". In the cloud, or hosted IP PBX environment, customers have a different technology model in mind. They expect a simple, easy to implement solution, with less technical expertise required on their part, and with minimal hardware located at their facilities.
In addition, customers view hosted voice solutions as a "fee for use" or "pay as you go" service with which they can enjoy the benefit of a manageable monthly payment rather than a large capital outlay as they historically have experienced with the purchase of a premise based phone system. Finally, the appeal of a service model technology solution means there is no intent to ever own anything associated with the service.
Customers simply...
Use the internet connectivity
Use the SIP trunks
Use the hosted service features, &
Use the VoIP phones or other endpoint equipment while they have the service.
Given the nature of a hosted PBX solution, the relevance of financing in the form of a rental program is a perfect fit to address the costs of the handsets and other minimal endpoint equipment (router or switch) still needed at the customer premise. While the connectivity and hosting features are contracted under a service agreement and treated as an ordinary operating expense, pairing this with a rental agreement that does the exact same thing for the endpoint equipment completes the solution keeping everything within the customer envisioned service model solution.
